The school year and semesters are over, the work dynamic has slowed slightly, and summer break has officially started! What better way to spend it than curl up in your chair, turn on the air conditioner and play your favorite game. We've selected our top five games that everybody should try this summer. Whether you are up for some vampire action, adventures on the open sea, or you are brave enough to take on some exciting raids, we've got you covered!
V Rising
We’re starting with a new release from Stunlock Studios. This survival game, first announced on May 5, 2021, hit the Steam market at the start of June and on the 2nd day of its release accumulated more than 100,000 concurrent players. It’s a multiplayer PvP/PvE vampire survival experience. You build your castle, hunt for blood, and rise in power, all while trying to conquer the world of the living. We’re also starting the list pretty cheap. The regular edition of the game starts at 20€, while the bundle with all the DLCs will set you back 60€. So grab a friend and start your vampire journey!
Risk of Rain 2
The next title on our list just celebrated its 3rd birthday in March. This roguelike third-person shooter developed by Hopoo Games is an amazing time killer. For those of you who don’t know what “Roguelike'' is, it’s a subgenre of RPG games traditionally characterized by a dungeon crawl through procedurally generated levels, turn-based gameplay, grid-based movement, and permanent death of the player character. Escape a chaotic alien planet by fighting through hordes of frenzied monsters – with your friends, or on your own. Not one run is the same so the game never gets repetitive. Aside from PC, it’s a great pickup for console gamers as the game is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Also coming in at the price of 20€ it’s a “no-brainer” pickup for anyone with a handheld console or someone who just wants to take a break from fast-paced games they’re used to.
Minecraft
It’s summer and of course, it’s time for a 3 week of Minecraft craze we all get. If you somehow haven’t heard about Minecraft yet, it’s a sandbox game developed by Mojang and catered to mostly kids, but we’d be lying if we said that we don’t enjoy it as well. Simple graphics, a relaxing soundtrack, and pretty easy gameplay mechanics make this game accessible to everyone. Although the game has a story behind it and you can beat it by defeating the Ender Dragon, it’s mostly a creative game where you’ll spend more time decorating your house and mining for materials. Picking this up for a console is a great way to bond with your kids / younger siblings this summer seeing as they probably know more about this game than you might think.
Escape from Tarkov
It just had to make the list. An office favorite, Escape from Tarkov is a multiplayer FPS title still in development by Battlestate Games. Playable only on PC, this game is set in the fictional region of Norvins where a war is taking place between two private military companies. But to be completely honest, little to no players really notice/know the backstory this game gives. It’s the adrenaline provided by the game which makes players eager to play. Make no mistake, this game is hardcore and non-forgiving. You lose everything you had on you upon death and no player will spare you. But, the game feels so rewarding once you manage to pick up the basics. After your first successful raid you’ll feel accomplished and like nothing can stop you. But then reality hits again and you lose a bunch of stuff, then you win again and are back on your feet. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, not made for the weak-hearted but why are we recommending it to you? We’ve made some great friends along our Tarkov journey. As much as the game is punishing, it’s enjoyable as well with the right people. Our Discord server is filled with players who are online every day and we’re always looking for new people to help out and get them into their first raids. Let your Tarkov journey begin!
Sea of Thieves
We’ve recently talked about Sea of Thieves in our podcast so it’s only fair to include it in our list. Sea of Thieves is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios. You take the role of a pirate, complete voyages, collect valuable loot, and try to sell it before any other pirates take it away from you. Altho it can be played solo, it’s recommended that you team up with a friend or few and start your journey together. Embarking into the seas can be done with up to 4 players in the party, so fights against others can get pretty big pretty quick. Enemy players are not your only enemy. The game is filled with PvE creatures and it can also spawn a Kraken to attack your ship. Yes, a Kraken! While we’re on the topic of ships, let’s talk about sizes. Ships vary in size depending on how many players are in your party. But with greater size, comes a greater risk of crashing the ship as it’s much more difficult to control. Every player has their role whilst on board and if not done correctly, it could end up pretty badly. Nevertheless, everyone needs some pirate action in their life! Ay, ay, captain!
