Forget PC gaming - mobile gaming is the next big thing!

Find out what is the fuss about mobile gaming becoming number one platform for gaming and what the future holds for the gaming industry.
It’s not uncommon at Good Game for our whole team to enjoy the same title in the same period. We have been quickly and easily carried away by the hype of New World, every new tournament in PUBG: Battlegrounds reminds us of the magic of that game, and Valorant's Spike Rush mode is our favourite short break between meetings.
However, we had never expressed the same level of interest in a mobile game - until Kova suggested Clash of Clans, a very popular mobile strategy that several of us had already played at some point in our lives.
While I’m writing this, our small group has already given a few hundred kunas in exchange for gems that would allow us to progress quickly in the game and in the end - achieve dominance and eternal glory!
It turns out that it's just as easy to "get hooked" on a mobile title as it is on a PC or console game. It’s maybe even easier when you consider that mobile devices are always at our fingertips, literally.
Can we therefore conclude that mobile gaming is the future of gaming entertainment?
Popularization of mobile gaming with the help of 5G network
The popularization of mobile gaming is a logical next step in the gaming industry because the arrival of the 5G network ensured that all the conditions that are important to the average gamer are met:
- Speed is high enough to run graphically and mechanically demanding titles
- Studios are increasingly adapting their products to mobile devices.
This directly affects the number of players and increases the popularity and competitive scene of a title. With cloud gaming, our favourite games are available wherever we are. Mobile sports tournaments can now be played from wherever, while for PC titles this item is limited to the game/event location or from your own home.
And while classic PC or console gaming has been a good enough option all these years, the undeniable fact is that you need appropriate hardware that has often been expensive or unavailable lately. On the other hand, the smartphone has already become the basic equipment for every man's life and one rarely forgets it after leaving his home.
This trend, which has been developing in Croatia for the last six months since the operators introduced us to the 5G network, has already taken off in the world. According to a NewZoo report for 2021, the mobile gaming market continues to surpass computers and consoles as the largest and fastest-growing gaming platform. In 2021, 52% of global gaming revenue came from mobile devices.
But what are the games that create such interest? Have some new players entered this scene or has Candy Crush just gotten really really big?
Translating more and more PC titles into mobile titles
As many as 60% of all gamers reveal that they like to play on mobile devices, some of which use it as the only platform for gaming according to the publication "Key Facts 2020 - The year we played together" published jointly by ISFE and EGDF. One more interesting piece of data is that women represent 53% of video players' games on mobile devices and tablets.
When we talk about earnings on mobile games, NewZoo's data on the European market in 2021 show that as much as 52% of revenues from a total of 9.3 billion euros came from users of tablets and mobile phones.
The news about the popularization of mobile gaming has not bypassed the owners of popular PC game titles, so we are increasingly witnessing mobile editions of games that enjoy the sympathy of great audiences in their original form.
Among the biggest ones is Riot Games, which released a simplified version of the most popular esports title League of Legends called Wild Rift and adapted its Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics for cross-play from the start. This means that PC and mobile players can now play together, which significantly contributes to the popularization of any such title because the difference in hardware is no longer an obstacle to playing with friends.
Equally popular is PUBG: Mobile which, unlike its PC version, is free to play.
What did 5G have to do with the popularization of mobile gaming?
In order to meet the new needs of the market, which is increasingly turning to digital technologies, telecoms had to react and become the main drivers and agents of change. This is where 5G comes into play - an advanced data transfer technology with several advantages: faster signal response (lower latency), gigabit speeds, the ability to connect many more devices simultaneously than ever before but with an equally stable and fast connection.
The main reasons for improving the existing technology were the increase in digital traffic and the demand for uninterrupted and stable connection, the emergence of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, M2M communication, Internet of Things and similar and the demand for sensors and actuators from autonomous vehicles and smart devices.
While gaming was certainly not at the top of the list of arguments, this technological advancement certainly pleased this industry.
Now, thanks to 5G technology, there is a faster transfer, but also faster processing of larger amounts of data than before. Games take a lot less time to download and less latency allows gameplay to become very smooth.
What does the future of gaming look like?
Mobile devices nowadays have everything needed for playing video games on them, so it is unquestionable that a large number of gamers is coming and will continue to come to this platform given its availability.
However, PC and console players need not fear that they will be deprived of content - gaming is an industry which is growing every year and more and more money is being invested in it. Therefore, we can predict the growth of mobile gaming without related branches suffering.
So whether you are a PC, console or mobile gamer, you can not resist the excitement brought by further development of the gaming industry. And if you are just looking for a way to bring your brand to gamers' attention, mobile gaming might just be it - the market is still not saturated with brands and the audience is much wider than those of PC games. Timely entry into this market might just make you the leading player and the trend creator, which the audience always welcomes and rewards.
